Prior to meeting Dorothy, William J. Moonan served in WW I.  His service record showed that he enlisted on Sept. 4, 1918 in Amsterdam, NY, as an Army Private.  He trained at Camp Jackson, SC  http://jackson.armylive.dodlive.mil/files/2014/03/museum.pdf, and was honorably discharged upon demobilization Jan. 2, 1919.  He was assigned to Battery B, 18th Field Artillery, and did not serve overseas.
